Santerias
Toronto Urban Latin ensemble fires up funk fusion! New video/single release “Mundo Desigual” (Unequal World) will have audiences speaking in tongues. Like the religion of Santeria their propulsive music is a mystical blend of old and new world influences – tribal rhythms expressing themselves in the gospels of popular song. Heartfelt guitar runs along with beat inducing electric bass while the dynamic drums transport the rhythm to funky Latin locales. Sultry vocals breathe out Bossa tales that teasingly take each song to a mysterious musical place occupied exclusively by Santerias. This Toronto quartet, brings the influences of their diverse backgrounds to the forefront of their sound to expose a funk and energetic fusion. Some songs bring in Latin rhythms while some embrace a Brazilian Tropicália sensibility. With a hot line up for 2017, band members include: Ana Lía Arias Garrido on lead vocals; Juan D. Toledo on guitar/effects and backing vocals; Oriana Barbato on bass/effects and backing vocals; and Randolf Jimenez on drums and backing vocals. |
